Best laptop for remote working

As the world becomes evermore digitally orientated and more and more people work from home, the demand for excellent remote working laptops is increasing. Laptops that are ideally suited to remote working conditions typically come with a consistent set of features and characteristics, such as a compact design and long battery life.

If you’re looking for places that buy laptops so you can trade in your old model for something more suitable, knowing what makes a good remote working laptop could help you. In this article, we’ll take a look at some of the best laptops for working remotely.

Things to consider

Here are some of the main things you’ll likely want to consider when shopping for a remote working laptop:

Size: Because remote workers are not tied to a single workstation and may have to travel occasionally, having a light and compact laptop is the most convenient.

Battery life: Having a long battery life also means you can travel and move around more freely.

Cost: Cost is always a consideration, but particularly when buying something for work.

Memory: Depending on the type of work you do, memory capacity could be an important factor.

The Google Pixelbook Go

This laptop really is designed with homeworkers in mind and comes with a range of benefits. Firstly, it is small, modestly priced, has a large memory and an impressive battery life – this one ticks all of the boxes right off the bat.

Weighing just over 1kg, this lightweight device comes with ‘hush keys’ that enable you to type almost silently and it is available in a range of colours. One possible downside is the fact that this laptop doesn’t have a USB port, so if you like to use external devices, this might not be the option for you.

Macbook Pro

If your work involves design, you can’t go wrong with a Macbook. This model has a fantastic visual display and is able to run adobe programs easily without its functionality being compromised. Boasting a 20 hour battery life, the Macbook Pro easily beats the Google Pixelbook in this regard.

It is heavier and larger than the Pixelbook however, but not by much, weighing 1.4kg. This computer is great for remote working as it has a powerful processor, capable of getting multiple energy-intensive tasks done simultaneously and it also has a huge storage capacity.

Macbook Air

The Macbook Air has many of the same features as the Pro, though it is significantly lighter and therefore, better for remote working. If you opt for the Macbook Air M1 version you will also benefit from its lightning-fast processing chip, and this model is cheaper.

If you work in design and you don’t select the M1 version then you may be let down by the processing speeds of the regular Macbook Air, as they use the same processor that’s used in iPhones.

The price is lower on this model though, so if your job doesn’t require an especially powerful laptop, this could be a good option for remote workers.
